Two day test lines up prospects for 2012 – Fitness now key for racing return
Dean Stoneman made an emotional return to single seater action for the World Series Renault test at Motorland Spain, marking his intention to return to action in 2012
The 21-year joined the ISR team for the two day Renault 3.5 test at the Aragon Circuit, Spain 29th & 30th November, in a bid to gauge his prospects of a return racing next season in the series.
Stoneman was clearly delighted to back in action. “It’s great to be here, I have been thinking of this test constantly for the last few weeks. After what the family has been through, it was great to have my father and uncle here too.” He explained “As I expected the first day was very tough and physically demanding having not driven for over thirteen months. I was able to recover well though for the second day and found things easier and wasn’t far off the pace. It’s looking promising for next year and now need to continue with my recovery and fitness regime.”
Stoneman’s Manager Stephen Noakes was also pleased with the two days and reflected : “ Dean came here simply looking to get back in a car. We had no expectations on pace, but were using it as a gauge to see where he is in terms of fitness and ability following his year out with treatment. It’s been a great two days with many drivers and team personnel commenting positively on Dean’s presence; it’s really given him a major boost. We would once again like to thank all at ISR for allowing us to test with them.
Stoneman will now continue to prepare to return to full action in 2012.
