British Racing Star to Become Youth Ambassador
Reigning 2010 FIA F2 Champion, Dean Stoneman has been named by Wessex Cancer Trust as Youth Ambassador.
The 20-year old from Southampton, who is receiving treatment for Testicular Cancer, will take up the role in April, which is aimed at inspiring other young people with the illness.
Sally Hall, Chief Executive of the local cancer charity said: ‘We are delighted that Dean has agreed to be Youth Ambassador for the Wessex Cancer Trust. He is a remarkable young man and an inspiration to us all. Although Dean is living with cancer himself, he still thinks about others and what he can do to help. The Trust is especially keen to increase its support for teenagers and young adults living with cancer, and I know that Dean will do all he can to help us and them’.
Dean is delighted to be asked to be a Youth Ambassador and commented: “It was very flattering to be approached to be part of the Wessex Cancer Trust. If I can help or inspire in anyway others like me on the road to recovery then that’s fantastic. I have received such incredible treatment, so would like to take this opportunity to give something back.”
Since his arrival into motorsport in 2000, Dean has excelled in every level of racing, thanks in main to his bold, rapid and single minded approach and last year went on to win the 2010 FIA F2 Championship. In November Dean impressed the world of F1 when he tested with the Williams F1 team in Abu Dhabi.
Dean has been receiving almost non-stop Chemotherapy since being diagnosed with Cancer towards the end of January this year, but his Manager Steve Noakes says “ Dean has been using the same positive attitude and determination he uses to great success in motor racing during his treatment. Being a Youth Ambassador is a great honor for Dean and we will do everything possible ensure he fulfills his duties totally.”
“The Trust’s priority is to raise public awareness of the work that Wessex Cancer Trust does, and I know that Dean is going to help us achieve this” said Sally. “Dean is a very determined young man, and is as passionate as we are about helping other people”.
