Stoneman to Announce Return at Autosport International
Autosport International, NEC, Birmingham UK 12th January. Dean Stoneman will officially announce his return to motorsport following his year-long break from racing.
The 21-year old will discuss his plans during his interview on the Autosport stage at 14:15 on the opening day of Europe’s leading motorsport show.
The 2010 F2 Champion will return to the very stage on which he discussed his plans with Autosport’s Henry Hope-Frost at last year’s show, just a week prior to being diagnosed with Testicular Cancer forcing him to withdraw from the sport whilst successfully undergoing treatment and surgery.
“It will be great to be back at the show to announce my plans for this year. I have to admit this all seemed a long way off during the height of my treatment. Thanks to some amazing people and support of those around me I’m delighted to be fit and well and to be in a position to start talking about racing again!”
Stoneman returned to action briefly in November last year for the World Series Renault 3.5 test in Motorland Spain with ISR as part of his rehabilitation. Despite being out of a car for over thirteen months, he still managed to be not far off the pace; providing him with a clear indication that a return would be possible in 2012.
Stoneman, who is part of the BRDC’s Superstars programme, became one of the UK’s leading young drivers in 2010 when he won the FIA Formula Two championship. During the same year he picked up the BRDC John Cobb Trophy and was also an Autosport Rookie of the Year nominee. The year ended with an impressive test for the Williams F1 Team at the rookie test in Abu Dhabi.
After having his career on hold for twelve months, the Southampton based driver is now considering offers and options in both Europe and the US, which may even see him included in the forthcoming Indy Lights test next month.
